Tucked way at the back of the very posh La Boutique Noire store is a hidden gem of a restaurant, Chabrol. Chabrol is a great new French spot in the heart of Yorkville and the highly anticipated new restaurant by Chef Doug Penfold and Manager Niall McCotter – The geniuses behind Cava Restaurant, a highly respected institution at St. Clair and Yonge.

The inspiration? A sentimental tribute. Doug Penfold is a classically trained French Chef and was mentored by Claude Bouillet (Pastis) who passed in late 2014.

Having some trouble getting a table at Chabrol? That’s because space is very limited…limited to about 4-5 tables in fact. But come on in and cruise up to the bar where they offer the same great food and same great experience.

As you would expect for a highly functional pint-sized restaurant, everything is thoughtfully curated! The menu is tight and each offering is delightfully tasty and wonderfully precise – most are made up of ingredients that were brought in earlier that day! Space is of the essence!

The lentil and beet salad with smoked parsnips is a must try for me next time, my friends said it was incredible!

Must have dessert? The apple tart! It arrives piping hot with a warm Calvados sabayon and baked on their very own home rolled puff pastry. A labor or love…

TIP: If you don’t see what you like on the wine list, ask Niall or another member of the serve staff, they have a wider offering beyond the menu!

Great things do come in small packages…at least at Chabrol!
